Academic Summary

In the research paper “The text and its analysis in rhetorics, hermeneutics andphilology” E.V.Trubeeva examines into types of text analyses and interrelation of linguistic and cultural aspects of text study.

She regards the types of analysis in detail referring to the origin of every type. She states that the subject of the traditional rhetorics was prose texts and they were regarded by persuasion and adequacy. Author defines hermeneutics as methodology of text interpretations, so the subject of hermeneutics is semantics. She mentions that originally hermeneutics was applied to religion texts. Speaking of philology Trubeeva claim that it tries to restore the content with the help of monuments.

Ultimately, the author concludes that the main achievement of these types is their significant attempt studying of the text, which was the only material and purpose of the study.  She ends her article by mentioning that solving the practical problems, these sciences developed their own specific methods of text analysis.

Academic Summary In the research paper “ Word length, sentence length and frequency ” Bengt Sigurd, Mats Eeg-Olofsson and Joost van de Weijer pursue the topic of frequency of words and sentences. They state that shorter words are more frequent because of economic factors. Firstly, they consider ideas about the economy of language are very suggestive and they are confirmed by the data in the paper. Secondly, they suggested some formulas that approximate the observed frequencies and proves that longer words tend to be avoided. Besides this, they found out that according to the English and Sweden corpuses three-letter syllables are the most frequent. Ultimately, what authors are trying to convey trough their research paper is it shows that the frequencies of language units seem to be a compromise between the desire to have many alternatives of expression and the desire to minimize the effort of producing and interpreting them.
